4 NightsDestination: Umhlanga, Durban, South Africa
Melanie and Paul combined some romantic beach time in Durban with a safari at Phinda Game Reserve – a low-risk malaria area on a big game reserve featuring seven habitats and home to Africa’s Big Five. The reserve is also known for its rare black rhinos and close-up sightings of the elusive cheetah.
Arriving at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, a VIP agent greeted the couple and escorted them through immigration, asssisting with baggage collection and their onward connection to King Shaka International Airport in Durban. Upon arrival, the pair were transfered to the luxurious The Oyster Box Hotel. This 86-room hotel is renowned for its generous hospitality, attentive service and exceptional cuisine.
After a scrumptious breakfast, the couple checked out and transferred to AndBeyond Phinda Rock where they overnighted for three nights of spectacular game viewing. With two scheduled game drives per day, Melanie and Paul could discuss what they hoped to see that day over fragrant tea or coffee and morning biscuits or rusks with their ranger, before heading out on the morning game drive. Renowned for its exceptional sightings of the elusive cheetah and the rare black rhino, as well as the Big Five, the travellers could also be on the lookout for a number of resident lion prides.
Carved into the rocky mountainside, AndBeyond Phinda Rock Lodge sits in sheer seclusion, suspended over the magnificent valley below. Six suites burrow into the heart of the cliffside, with solid wooden shutters and doors opening out onto a private viewing deck and plunge pool balanced on the very edge of a breathtaking precipice.
Boasting spacious ensuite bathrooms, the suites also feature outdoor showers, providing some of the most scenic al fresco bathing on the African continent. The lodge’s comfortable sitting areas offer the perfect vantage point for viewing the abundant birdlife in the surrounding trees and the wildlife roaming the bush below.
After an early-morning wake up call and their final game drive, the couple enjoyed their final holiday breakfast before checking out and transfering to Phinda Airstrip for their scheduled flights to Mpumalanga Airport and Cape Town.
