How do you delight a family of regular travellers with an active lifestyle? Shep, Wendy and their four adult children combined the best-of-the-best in their three-country tour of Africa’s most superb sights, luxurious accommodations and life-changing experiences.
Arriving in Nairobi, the family was met by a VIP meet-and-greet representative and assisted through customs and immigration, then transferred to their luxury five-star boutique hotel. With a dedicated butler to cater to their every need, Shep, Wendy and their children could take in views of the Ngong Hills from their private balconies or over sundowners at the bar.
A three-hour flight to Kigali and a 3.5 hour 4×4 transfer by road took the group to Singita Kwitonda’s Kataza 4-Bedroom Villa, located on a breathtaking, 178-acre land right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park. Their three-night stay at the lodge provided a contemplative, nurturing space in which to appreciate the transformative, often spiritual, experience of coming face to face with Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. The family enjoyed a variety of incredible gorilla trekking experiences on each day of their stay.
After a leisurely breakfast, the family departed Kwitonda with their guide for Kigali airport on a 3.5 hour road transfer to join a two-hour private charter across the border to Tanzania, stopping at Mwanza airstrip to clear customs and immigration for Tanzania. Upon arrival, the guests were transferred to their lodge to experience four nights at Singita Sasakwa in four one-bedroom cottages in the style of a stately Edwardian manor house, each with a private infinity pool. The expanse and beauty of the reserves, limited guest and vehicle numbers, extraordinarily consistent game viewing and the exceptional care that is taken of each guest during their stay, as well as the knowledge that they had made a contribution to the legacy of Africa, made this leg of the journey a real highlight; not the mention the surise hot air balloon safari and twice-a-day safaris.
After a leisurely morning, Shep, Wendy and family bid farewell to Sasakwa and were transferred to the nearby airstrip for a connecting flight with a private charter to Kilimanjaro International Airport for their journey home.
